Core sector industrial production in the country declined by 2.6 per cent year-on-year in November 2020, at a slightly steeper rate than the 2.5 per cent decline in October 2020, provisional figures released by the commerce ministry showed.
Production in the eight core sector industries comprising coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertiliser, steel, cement and electricity, which carry nearly 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), registered a cumulative growth of (-) 11.4 per cent during April-November 2020-21.
Final growth rate of the eight core industries for August’2020 has been revised to (-) 6.9 per cent.
Production of coal, which ha a weight of 10.33 per cent in the index, increased by 2.9 per cent year-on-year in November 2020 while cumulative coal production during April-November 2020-21 declined by 2.6 per cent year-on-year.
Crude oil production (weight of 8.98 per cent in the index) declined by 4.9 per cent in November 2020 qwhile cumulative production of crude oil declined by 6.0 per cent during April-November 2020-21.
Natural gas production (weight of 6.88 per cent in the index) declined by 9.3 per cent in November 2020 while cumulative production of natural gas declined by 12.1 per cent during April-November 2020-21.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent in the index) declined by 4.8 per cent in November 2020 while cumulative refinery throughput declined by 14.9 per cent during April-November 2020-21.
Fertiliser production (weight of 2.63 per cent in the index) increased by 1.6 per cent in November 2020 while cumulative fertiliser production increased by 3.8 per cent during April-November 2020-21 over the corresponding period of previous year.
Steel production (weight of 17.92 per cent in the index) declined by 4.4 per cent in November 2020 while cumulative steel production declined by 19.4 per cent during April-November 2020-21.
Cement production (weight:5.37 per cent in the index) declined by 7.1 per cent in November 2020 while cumulative cement production declined by19.5 per cent during April-November 2020-21.
Electricity generation (weight:19.85 per cent in the index) increased by 2.2 per cent in November 2020 while cumulative electricity production declined by 4.7 per cent during April-November 2020-21.
