India’s wholesale price inflation slows to 1.89% in November

The annual rate of inflation based on the all-India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) declined to 1.89 per cent in November 2024 from 2.36 per cent in October, on the back of a slight fall in food prices, provisional figures released by the commerce ministry showed.
Despite the slowing pace of inflation prices in general, including those of food articles, food products, other manufacturing, textiles, machinery and equipment, remained high in November 2024.
Inflation rate for the `Primary Articles’ group, which has a weight of 22.62 per cent in WPI, declined by 1.20 per cent in November 2024.
Inflation rate for the `Fuel & Power’ group, which has a weight of 13.15 per cent in WPI, increased by 0.41 per cent during the month.
Inflation rate for the `Manufactured Products’ group, which has a weight of 64.23 per cent in WPI, increased by 0.35 per cent in November 2024 as 10 out of the 22 manufactured product groups saw increase in prices.
Inflation rate based on the WPI Food Index (weight of 24.38 per cent), consisting of 'food articles' from primary articles group and 'food product' from manufactured products group, declined to 8.92 per cent in November 2024 from 11.59 per cent in October.
The revised WPI inflation rate for September 2024, based on the final index for the month stood at 1.91 per cent.
