India’s wholesale price inflation unchanged at 1.08% in August

The official wholesale price inflation, based on the Wholesale Price Index for 'All Commodities' (Base: 2011-12=100) for August 2019 remained unchanged from the previous month at 1.08 per cent.
The WPI-based inflation for August 2018 stood at 4.62 per cent in August 2019, while build-up of inflation rate in the financial year so far was 1.25 per cent compared to a build-up rate of 3.27 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Inflation rate for the `primary articles’ group, which has a 22.62 per cent share in the wholesale price index, rose 1.3 per cent to 143.9 (provisional) from 142.1 (provisional) for the previous month.
Within the primary articles group, inflation rate for the 'food articles' group rose 1.4 per cent while the inflation rate for the non-food articles group rose 0.9 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'crude petroleum and natural gas' group rose 1.4 per cent.
Inflation rate for the `fuel and power’ group, which has a weight of 13.15 per cent in the wholesale price index, rose 0.1 per cent, while the inflation rate for the 'mineral oils' group rose 0.1 per cent.
MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS (Weight 64.23%)
Inflation rate for the `manufactured products’ group, which has a weight of 64.23 per cent, declined by 0.3 per cent.
Within the manufactured products group, inflation rate for the 'manufactured food products' group rose 1.1 per cent while the inflation rate for the 'beverages' group rose 0.6 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'tobacco products' group rose 0.2 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'textiles' group declined by 0.8 per cent while the inflation rate for the 'wearing apparel' group declined by 0.6 per cent.
Inflation rate for the `leather and related products' group rose 0.8 per cent, while the inflation rate for the 'wood and of wood products and cork ' group declined by 0.1 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'paper and paper products' group declined by 0.7 per cent while the inflation rate for the 'printing and reproduction of recorded media ' group rose 0.6 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'chemicals and chemical products' group declined by 0.4 per cent while the inflation rate for the 'pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical and botanical products' group declined by 0.6 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'rubber and plastics products' group declined by 0.9 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'basic metals' group declined by 2.3 per cent.
Inflation rate for the fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment” group declined by 0.6 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products' group declined by 0.2 per cent, while the inflation rate for the 'electrical equipment' group declined by 0.2 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'machinery and equipment' group declined by 0.4 per cent while the inflation rate for the 'motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers' group declined by 0.4 per cent.
Inflation rate for 'other transport equipment' group rose 1.0 per cent.
Inflation rate for the 'furniture' group rose 2.1 per cent while the inflation rate for the 'other manufacturing' group rose 1.8 per cent
The rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index consisting of ‘food articles’ from the primary articles group and the ‘manufactured food products, and a weight of 23.38 per cent, increased from 4.54 per cent in July 2019 to 5.75 per cent in August 2019.
Inflation rate based on the final wholesale price index for 'all commodities' in June remained unchanged compared to 121.5 (provisional) and annual rate of inflation based on final index remained unchanged at 2.02 per cent compared to 2.02 per cent, respectively, as of 15 July 2019.
