India’s WPI inflation seen lower at 7.25 per cent in June

The annual rate of inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) stood at 7.25 per cent in June 2012 against 7.55 per cent in the previous month despite high food prices, as prices of manufactured items eased a little.
However, prices of some of the essential commodities such as vegetables, wheat and pulses continued to rise.
WPI inflation stood at 9.51 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.
The official wholesale price index for 'all commodities' (base: 2004-05 = 100) rose 0.2 per cent to 164.2 (provisional) in June 2012 from 163.9 (provisional) in the previous month, official data showed.
Build-up of inflation so far during the financial year was 1.99 per cent against a build-up of 2.41 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The index for the `primary articles' group rose 0.1 per cent to 216.4 (provisional) during June 2012 from 216.1 (provisional) in the previous month.
Among primary articles, inflation for food articles rose to 10.81 per cent in June from 10.74 per cent in May. Food inflation in June last year was 7.6 per cent. Food articles have 14.3 per cent share in the WPI basket.
