India's indirect tax collections during the April-June quarter of the current fiscal rose 13.8 per cent to over Rs1,07,000 crore, against the targeted 27 per cent growth for the entire fiscal.
''In the April-June quarter with a receipt of Rs1,07,959 crore, we have achieved a growth of 13.8 per cent over Rs94,849 crore collection in the corresponding period last year,'' Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) chairman S K Goel said today.
Customs duty collections rose 12.2 per cent to Rs38,744 crore during the quarter while excise duty collections rose by 29.8 per cent to Rs41,147 crore.
Service tax collection rose 40.8 per cent to Rs28,068 crore.
Goel attributed the comparatively lower collections from customs duty in the June quarter to higher duty drawbacks given in the first two months.
''In the coming months, we expect a pick up in collection from customs,'' he said.
