Industrial production growth slogs at 0.1 per cent in July

Industrial production in the country grew at a slow pace of 0.1 per cent in July 2012 on the back of a 0.2 per cent contraction in manufacturing output.
The growth of 0.1 per cent in the index of industrial production (IIP) in July comes after the 1.8 per cent contraction in the previous month, quick estimates by the Central Statistical Organsation (CSO) showed.
The general index of industrial production (Base 2004-05=100) for July 2012 was 0.1 per cent higher at 167.3 compared to the level in July 2011.
Cumulative growth of industrial production for the period April-July 2012-13, however, showed a negative growth of (-) 0.1 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.
Production in the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors for the month stood at 123.2, 177.1 and 156.3 respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of (-) 0.7 per cent, (-) 0.2 per cent and 2.8 per cent year-on-year.
The three sectors showed cumulative growth rates of (-) 0.9 per cent, (-) 0.6 per cent and 5.5 per cent, respectively, during April-July 2012-13 over the corresponding period of 2011-12.
