Inflation rate zooms to 4.78 per cent in November

The annual rate of inflation based on the wholesale price index stood at 4.78 per cent (provisional) during November 2009, up 3.44 percentage points from 1.34 per cent (provisional) in the previous month.
The spike has been reflected in the annual WPI inflation rate calculated on a week-to-week basis for food articles (base: 1993-94=100), which increased to 19.05 per cent in the week ended 28 November 2009 from 17.47 per cent during the week ended 21 November 2009
Inflation rate stood at 8.48 per cent in the corresponding month of the previous year.
The official wholesale price index for 'all commodities' (Base: 1993-94 = 100) for November 2009 rose 1.3 per cent to 245.4 (provisional) from 242.2 (provisional) for the previous month.
Built-up inflation in the financial year so far was 7.54 per cent against a build-up of 3.86 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The index for the `primary articles' group rose 2.6 per cent to 280.6 (provisional) from 273.4 (provisional) in the previous month.
