Jagan Reddy to face more charges in assets case: CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation, probing the disproportionate assets case against YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, told a Special CBI Court in Hyderabad that it may file a supplementary chargesheet against 'Jagan' Reddy soon, possibly today.

The investigating agency submitted this to the court while seeking extension of the judicial remand of Jagan and other accused.

The supplementary chargesheet is likely to be filed against three pharmaceutical companies after the CBI said it has collected more details against them during its investigation.

The court on Monday extended the judicial remand of Jagan, former Andhra Pradesh excise minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao, industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, and IRAS officer K V Brahmananda Reddy (all accused in the Vanpic aspect of the Jagan assets case) till 8 April, after they were produced before it through video-conference from Chanchalguda Central Prison where they are currently lodged.

It is alleged that industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, promoter of the Vanpic project, invested Rs854 crore in companies belonging to Jagan in return for largesse in land and permissions. It is alleged that the then AP government, led by Jagan's father the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, doled out many favours to Prasad.

Jagan was arrested by the CBI on 27 May 2012 on corruption charges and has been in the jail since then.

Andhra Pradesh roads and buildings minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, also an accused in the case, also appeared before the principal special court in connection with the CBI cases.

Meanwhile, the court also extended today the judicial custody of former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, his brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy and Gali's associate K Mehfuz Ali Khan, all accused in the Obalapuram Mining Co illegal iron ore extraction scam, till 15 April.

The court also extended the judicial remand of Sunil Reddy, an accused in the Emaar land scandal, till 8 April.

The CBI has accused Jagan of getting huge investments from various individuals and firms into his businesses in exchange for favours granted by the previous government headed by his father, the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

The CBI has so far filed four chargesheets against Jagan and others. The investigating agency has accused Jagan and his late father of hatching a conspiracy to defraud the state government, wherein Jagan influenced his father to grant favours to various parties who in turn invested several crores in Jagan's businesses.
