K V Kamath, K Morparia on CAG's new audit advisory board

Non-executive chairman of ICICI Bank and non-executive ddirector of Infosys Technology, K V Kamath, and J P Morgan India CEO Kalpana Morparia are among the largely non-government personalities on the new audit advisory board of the public expenditure watchdog, Comptroller & Auditor General.
The new nine-member body, named yesterday, has only one bureaucrat - Shailaja Chandra, former chief secretary, Delhi - and comprises essentially eminent personalities associated with NGOs and Unicef adviser Dr A K Shiva Kumar.
The body was constituted by CAG Vinod Rai, who will be the ex-officio chairman of the new board.
The main function of the board will be to advise CAG "in matters relating to audit and suggest improvements in the performance and focus of audit within the framework of the constitution and statutory mandate of the CAG", a statement form the regulator said.
Five deputy CAGs will be the ex-officio members of the board.
The first meeting of the AAB is scheduled on 17 August 2011 in Delhi.
The members will function in an honorary capacity for a period of two years.
The members of the new advisory board are:
- Shailaja Chandra, former chief secretary, Delhi
- T. Sethumadhavan, public finance consultant
- Pratap Bhanu Mehta, president, Center for Policy Research
- Dr. A.K. Shiva Kumar, adviser, UNICEF
- Rohini Nilekani, chairperson, Arghyam
- Kalpana Morparia,CEO, JP Morgan India Pvt. Ltd
- Sunita Narain, director general, Centre for Science and Environment
- K V Kamath, chairman, ICICI Bank and Shabana Azmi, social activist.
