Nine private companied shortlisted for 15 rural infrastructure pilot projects

The centre has shortlisted 9 private sector companies for developing 15 pilot projects under the `provision of urban amenities in rural areas' (PURA) scheme, secretary, ministry of rural development B K Sinha said today.
These companies include Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, IL&FS Limited, Infrastructure Kerala Limited, Marg Ltd, Buldana Urban Cooperative Society Ltd, A2Z Maintenance and Engg Services Ltd, Megha Engineering Infrastructure Limited, Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited and SVEC, Sinha said at a press conference in New Delhi today.
The first of the pilot project proposals for rural infrastructure development under public private partnership (PPP), the schemes evoked unprecedented response from the private sector.
The response has been unprecedented with ninety-five private entities, including IDFC, Tata Power, Reliance Industries, IL&FS, SREI Infrastructure etc expressing interest.
The number of projects have also gone up from 8-10 across the country, originally envisaged by the ministry of rural development, he said.
The nine companies that have been short-listed are in the area of infrastructure development with strong rural and community mobilisation experience either directly of through their consortium partners.
