Supreme Court dumps all petitions related to CBSE exam paper leaks

The Supreme Court today dismissed a batch of petitions related to the CBSE's question paper leaks, saying it won't interfere with any of the board's decision on a re-exam.
The apex court also turned down a plea for a CBI inquiry into the leaks of the Class 10 mathematics paper and the Class 12 economics paper.
The petitions were filed by students and parents against the CBSE announced that the Class 12 economics exam would be held again, on 25 April. It, however, decided not to hold a retest for the Class 10 math paper, although the question paper for the earlier test was leaked.
CBSE said the decision was made after a thorough analysis and evaluation of the answer sheets which showed no specific trend that the leak had impacted the exam outcome.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud had earlier said since many petitions have been filed on the same issue, it would list them all for hearing on 4 April.
The ministry of human resource development had last week said a re-examination of CBSE Class XII paper would be held on 25 April while for the Class X mathematics paper a re-test, if required, will be carried out for the Delhi-NCR region and Haryana in July.
"Class X examination is essentially a gateway for Class XI and thus remains largely an internal segment of school education," it said in a statement.
"On the other hand, Class XII exams are a gateway to higher education and various professional competitive exams which have limited seats...therefore, giving undue advantage of to a handful of beneficiaries of the alleged leak of the economics paper would not be in larger interest of the students," it said.
The board said that it did not find any trend that would indicate to any impact on the examination due to the paper leak.
The examinations for the Class X mathematics and Class XII economic papers had been held on 28 March and 26 March respectively.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have arrested three people, including two teachers of a private school, on Sunday for their suspected roles in leakage of the Class 12 economics paper.
The CBSE now proposes to send encrypted copies of question papers to the examination centres henceforth by e-mail, which would have to be downloaded and printed by the exam centres.
