India's industrial production grew 15.1 per cent in February

Industrial production in the country rose 15.1 per cent in February 2010 compared to the level in February 2009, quick estimates of the index of industrial production (Base 1993-94=100), released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) showed.
Industrial production in the country had grown at an even faster rate of 16.7 per cent in January 2010. The slowdown was due mainly to slower growth in manufacturing and mining output.
The general index of industrial production (IIP) stood at 318.5, which is 15.1 per cent higher than the level in February 2009.
Cumulative growth of industrial production during April-February 2009-10 stood at 10.1 per cent year-on-year.
The indices of production for the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors in February 2010 stood at 205.5, 345.1, and 227.0, respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of 12.2 per cent, 16.0 per cent and 6.7 per cent.
Cumulative year-on-year growth during April-February 2009-10 in the three sectors have been 9.7 per cent, 10.5 per cent and 5.8 per cent respectively, which moved the overall growth in the general index to 10.1 per cent.
