M K Narayanan to handle NSA duties

New Delhi: Prime minister Manmohan Singh yesterday assigned the duties of the National Security Advisor to his special advisor M K Narayanan, former chief of Intelligence Bureau (IB). The order issued by the PMO specified that this was "till further orders."
Narayanan, 70, was the IB chief from 1989-90 and was then appointed as the head of the Joint Intelligence Committee. He returned as the IB chief in 1991 before retiring the next year. He is considered a specialist in Sri Lankan affairs.
