35 centrally protected monuments not traceable: minister

Out of the 3,675 centrally protected monuments/sites, 35, including 12 in Delhi, are not traceable, minister of state for planning and parliamentary affairs V Narayanasamy informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The main causes for the disappearance of these monuments are urbanisation, commercialisation and implementation of development projects, the minister said. 

He said the disappearance came to light in the course of surveys of monuments and that it is not feasible to fix individual responsibility. The state-wise details of the missing are as follows:   

Assam: Guns of Emperor Sher Shah, at Na-sadia in Tinsukia district.

Arunachal Pradesh: Ruins of Copper Temple near Paya, in Lohit district.
 
Delhi: The Moti Gate of Sher Shah's Delhi, Mauza Babarpur Bazidpur, in New Delhi; Pool Chadar, Mauza Chaukri Mubarakabad, North Delhi; Alipur Cemetery, Alipur encamping ground in North Delhi; Bara Khamba Cemetery, Imperial city, in Delhi; Tomb of Capt McBarnett and others who fell in an attack on Kishanganj, North Delhi; Tomb with three domes near Nizamuddin railway station, in  South Delhi; Site of Siege Battery bearing the inscription `Right Attack, Lieutenant FR Mansell, RE, directing engineer, No1 Battery-Right, Major James Brind, RA, Commanding, Armament five 18-pounders: one 18-inch howitzer. To silence `Mori Bastion', east of the hospital in police line in North Delhi; Site of Siege Battery with the inscription, `No II Battery-Right, Major Edward Kaye, RA, Commanding Armament two 18-pounders; Seven 8-inch howitzers, to breach Kashmir bastion, Compound of Curzon House in North Delhi; Inchla Wali Gumti, village Mubarak pur Kotla, in South Delhi; Mound known as Joga Bai comprising parts of survey plot No 167 as Jamia Nagar, in South Delhi; Shamsi Tallab together with both the platform entrance gates at Mehrauli, in Delhi; and Nicholson Statue, its platform, its surrounding gardens, paths and enclosure wall, outside of Kashmiri Gate, North Delhi.
 
Gujarat: Ancient site Atjakpur, in Surendranagar district and historic site No 431 to 435 at Vadodara in Vadodara district.
 
Haryana: Mughal Kos Minar, Mujjesar, at Faridabad district and Mughal Kos Minar, at Shahbad in Kurukshetra district.

Jammu & Kashmir: Rock carving of Sitala, Narada, Brahma and Radha Krishna, at Basohli, in Kathua district; Rock carving of Devi riding a lion, at Basohli in Kathua district; and Visveswara and other cave temples, at Basohli, in Kathua district.
