Aviation ex-minister Ajit Singh’s house stripped of power, water

In a development unusual in Indian politics, Ajit Singh, the civil aviation minister under the former Manmohan Singh-led UPA government, today found power and water supply at his residence cut off by the New Delhi Municipal Commission (NDMC).
The move came because Singh has delayed vacating his government-allotted Tughlaq Road residence in New Delhi despite having lost his seat in the Lok Sabha elections, which means he is no longer even an MP.
Singh, president of the UP-based Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), was served an eviction notice in July. But earlier this month, a Delhi Police team faced stiff resistance from Singh's supporters when it arrived at the bungalow to get it vacated.
The bungalow has now been allotted to sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who has been lodging in a private guest house.
Singh lost the election from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh to the BJP's Satyapal Singh, a former Mumbai police commissioner.
The 75-year-old Jat community leader had never lost an election in his constituency since 1999.
