The Bharatiya Janata Party once again blocked the functioning of Parliament today with its demand that both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and law minister Ashwini Kumar must resign in connection with alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks.
Members of the BJP stormed the well in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha as soon as Question Hour was taken up.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned minutes after the day's proceedings began at 11 am as BJP members advanced to the Speaker's podium demanding the Prime Minister's resignation.
Speaker Meira Kumar's efforts to calm BJP members proved futile and she adjourned the House till 12 noon.
The scene in the Rajya Sabha was similar, with BJP members shouting slogans against the Prime Minister.
Amid the pandemonium, Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till noon.
In the Lok Sabha, Akali Dal members were also in the well demanding a Supreme Court-monitored special investigation team probe into the '1984 genocide' of Sikhs.
Members of the Telugu Desam Party and the BJP were also seen on their feet carrying placards in support of the Akali Dal demand.
