In Delhi the choice is between governance and anarchy: Jaitley
06 Feb 2015
A day ahead of assembly polls, finance minister Arun Jaitley today told Delhi voters to choose between governance and anarchy as the BJP made a last ditch attempt to drum up support, even as he slammed AAP as a party which is more comfortable in roads than the secretariat.
To drive home his point, Jaitley recalled the 49 days of Arvind Kejriwal government, which, he said, would be remembered for his dharna "at the seat of power" and threatening to stop Republic Day parade if his demands were not met.
"These are all faces of anarchy.... They talk about honesty and then give tickets to land mafia. They allege political conspiracy when their candidate is caught with liquor bottles," he said.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Jaitley also dismissed AAP's criticism of BJP over full-page advertisement put out by the party today in major newspapers, saying it was a legitimate exercise to reach out to voters.
"It's a strange party. It does not find anything wrong with accepting black money as donation but questions us for reaching out to people," he said.
The senior BJP leader also ruled out voters getting swayed by Shahi Imam's appeal to Muslims to vote for AAP, saying the people would give a befitting reply to this.
Jaitley said that if BJP symbolises development and that Kiran Bedi has a proven credentials.
Jaitley, however, rejected the notion that the Delhi election is a referendum - the election is an election and referendum is a referendum, he said.
