Three people are reported to have died in the fire that broke out at Mumbai's Mantralaya (secretariat) in south Mumbai, which houses government offices, this afternoon.
The blaze is reported to be more active on the sixth floor and fire fighters are still trying to put out the flames.
Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has ordered an inquiry to ascertain what caused the incident.
The fire that broke out at a time when investigations are going on into various scams, is likely to rouse speculations of sabotage.
The chief minister said Mumbai Crime Branch will probe the matter.
The fire that started on the fourth floor later spread to the sixth floor, which houses the offices of the CM and the deputy CM. Both the offices of CM and the deputy CM have been gutted in the fire.
