No special treatment for jailed dons, decrees Yogi

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who has made it his proclaimed mission to improve law and order in the state, is now focussing on ending special treatment for jailed dons and high profile criminals.
According to PTI, the UP chief minister has ordered state prison officials to provide the same food and treatment for all, whether petty criminals or big mafia dons.
Adityanath's remarks to this effect came at a review meeting of the state's home, vigilance and jails department on Wednesday night.
There have often been reports and allegations in the past about certain prisoners enjoying privileges in jails, including the use of phones.
The chief minister said the same food should be given to all convicts lodged in jails, and ordered installation of mobile phone jammers, an official spokesman said.
Yogi Adityanath warned jail officials against leniency towards notorious criminals and asserted that they should not be allowed to use medical treatment as an excuse.
In the meeting, the chief minister stressed on effective checks on corruption in all cells of the police and identification of staff members having links with criminals and anti-social elements, a spokesperson for the CM said.
