PM launches MyGov portal to enable Govt-citizen discussions
26 Jul 2014
The government today launched the `MyGov' portal, a platform that would serve as a medium for the people, specially the youth, to actively connect with the government and facilitate their engagement towards nation's development
Launching MyGov, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the portal would be a platform that empowers the citizen to contribute towards Swarajya.
''The platform would bridge the gulf between people and government. Democracy cannot succeed without people's participation in government and this participation should not be limited only during elections. The participation should be there in fulfilling peoples' aspirations and needs,'' Modi said.
MyGov presents an opportunity to the citizens to participate in multiple theme-based discussions and to share their thoughts and ideas with a wide range of people. Citizens can upload documents, case studies, pictures, videos, other work plans, etc, on the platform. They can volunteer for various tasks and submit their entries. These tasks would then be reviewed by other members and experts, the ministry of communications and IT said in a release.
Once approved, these tasks can be shared by those who completed the task and by other members on MyGov. Every approved task would earn credit points for completed task. National Informatics Centre (NIC), Department of Electronics and Information Technology would manage the portal, it added.
The platform has been divided into various groups, namely, Clean Ganga, Girl Child Education, Clean India, Skilled India, Digital India, Job Creation. Each group consists of online and on ground tasks that can be taken up the contributors. The aim is to bring about a qualitative change in each sphere through people's participation.
The platforms launched will get feedback from the community and try bringing about improvements on a continuous basis. He said the department plans to have a mobile app for MyGov.in to enable citizens to take pictures from their mobile and upload them on the forum, report in-context problems and issues, etc, while on the move.
He said this platform may even be extended to act like public audit platform for government projects where
Citizens can provide a feedback on the status of completed infrastructure projects, and availability of various social sector programs etc.
