09 May 2016
The Supreme Court today said the students who took National Eligibility Entrance Test(NEET) can also appear for NEET-2.
''Students who took NEET-1 can appear for NEET-2 as well,'' said an apex court bench, headed by Justice Anil R Dave.
On Friday, the apex court had said NEET-II, scheduled for July 24, will allow only those candidates who have not appeared in the May 1 NEET-1 examinations irrespective of whether or not they had filled up the forms.
The Central Board of School Education (CBSE) is conducting the NEET examinations in the current year only in English and Hindi. These two medical courses - MBBS and BDS - was opposed by Medical Council of India (MCI).
The apex court had earlier in its last hearing on April 29, made it clear that the NEET examinations would go as per the schedule on May 1 and July 24. (AGENCIES)
CBSE will soon launch the online application link for NEET phase-2, which is scheduled for 24 July.
CBSE will declare results of both Phase-1 and Phase-2 on August 17 in a combined list.
It will provide the All India Rank based on which a merit list will be drawn.
The Supreme Court had ruled that a single entrance exam for medical admissions was to be conducted. Maharashtra government had filed a review petition in SC requesting that it be allowed to conduct its own test till at least 2017. Other states too have approached the apex court citing various reasons to defer, or not to hold NEET, and hearing in this matter will resume on Monday.
Maharashtra has already conducted its CET on 5 May and is hoping that the SC does not strike it down.
