Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has won a Rs9,500 crore order from NTPC Ltd for setting up Stage III of the Singrauli Super Thermal Power Project in Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh.
As per the order, BHEL will supply equipment like a boiler, turbine, generator and associated auxiliaries. It will also undertake erection and commissioning of the project, according to an exchange filing.
Work on the first unit of the 2x800 power project will be completed in 50 months and that of the second unit in 54 months from the award of contract.
NTPC issued the notification regarding the award of EPC contract for the Singrauli Super Critical Power Project on Tuesday, 5 March.
BHEL was the only bidder for NTPC’s global tender and there was no guarantee that the company would automatically win the order.
Both promoters - NTPC and Singrauli Super Thermal Power Project - are central public sector enterprises (CPSEs).
BHEL had, earlier, received an order from Haryana Power Generation Corporation for setting up an 800 megawatt unit for its ultra super critical power project. The Rs5,500 crore project will be developed at the Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Haryana's Yamuna Nagar.
NTPC had also won the contract for the Rs15,000-crore Talabira project of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC).
BHEL's order book stood at Rs1.14 lakh crore at the end of the first half of financial year 2023-24.
