The Central Ayurveda Research Institute at Rohini, New Delhi is set for a major expansion with a new state-of-the-art building to be constructed at the cost of around Rs187 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the new building. The new facility, coming up on a 2.92 acre plot, will promote holistic healing using traditional and modern medicines.

With specialised clinics, and facilities for skill development, the new centre marks the second phase of development of the Central Ayurveda Research Institute.

The project, involving an investment of Rs187.15 crore, includes a 100-bed dedicated research hospital for Ayurveda, which will also serve the local community.

The project is set to be completed within 30 months, further strengthening India’s leadership in traditional medicine.

Modi said the facility will drive research and help impart quality healthcare to millions of people across the country. The Ayush system can now be accessed in more than 100 countries, he added.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also set up an institution on traditional medicines in India, which point to the recognition that Ayurveda has gained the world over, Modi pointed out.

CARI offers specialised treatment in geriatrics, pediatrics, ear-nose-throat (ENT), arthritis, preventive cardiology, and eye care, alongside traditional treatments like Panchakarma, Kshara sutra (medicated thread therapy), and Jalukavacharana (leech therapy).

The institute also provides skill training in Panchakarma, with the aim of imparting valuable skills in Ayurveda to the youth.

With its advanced infrastructure, CARI will use modern diagnostic tools and therapeutic technologies for treatment of patients, which, in turn, will revolutionise research and patient care in Ayurveda, Modi said.

The institute will also have cutting-edge clinical laboratories, physiotherapy units, and a well-equipped library to support research.

CARI has already been certified by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) and the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

Established in 1979, CARI focuses on clinical research in Ayurveda, particularly on preventive cardiology and non-communicable diseases.
