ABB teams up with Titagarh Rail for metro projects in India

ABB Ltd, a global leader in electrification and automation technology, has formed a strategic partnership with Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd for the supply of Metro Rail propulsion systems.
Titagarh will purchase these propulsion systems, including traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors and Train Control and Management System (TCMS) software from ABB.
Further, under the agreement, Titagarh Rail Systems will have the right to secure manufacturing rights and production licences for traction motors, along with the complete transfer of technology from ABB.
The partnership will enable Titagarh, already a leader in rolling stock manufacturing in the country, to incorporate high-end technologies in the design and manufacture of modern trains and control systems.
ABB will benefit from increased business opportunity in India’s emerging market for modern rolling stock and rail propulsion systems.
Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, previously known as Titagarh Wagons Limited, is engaged in the manufacture of trains and train components. Indian Railways has awarded the company contracts to build and maintain the semi-high speed Vande Bharat Trains.
Titagarh has also branched out into shipbuilding, bridge construction, and defence.
Based in in Vasteras, Sweden, and Zurich, Switzerland. ABB is a technology leader in electrification and automation, engaged in manufacturing and servicing propulsion systems and electrical equipment for rolling stock used for railways and metro systems.
