DP World to build modern container terminal near Kandla Port

Dubai-based infrastructure major DP World will construct a mega container terminal at Tuna Tekra, DPA, Gujarat, under a concession agreement signed with the Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla.
The next generation container terminal, to be constructed on a public-private partnership basis, will involve investment of Rs4,243.64 crore.
The new container terminal will connect the northern, western and central parts of India to global markets, catering to future trade.
Minister for ports, shipping and waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal said the port aligns with the prime minister’s AmritKaal Vision 2047 of quadrupling port handling capacity along with the development of multimodal logistics infrastructure
Shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal, DP World Group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayemairman and DP World CEO Rizwan Soomar were present on the occasion.
The port, with 1,100 metre berth, will be suitable for handling vessels carrying more than 18,000 TEUs and will have an annual handling capacity of 2.19 million TEUs. It will also be fully compliant with the green port guidelines.
The new container terminal will have a transformative effect on the Kutch region with the creation of ancillary services like warehousing, freight services, container terminals etc, generating direct and indirect employment to hundreds of people, which, in turn, will give a big boost to the economy of the region and beyond.
