Maharashtra allocates Rs4,240 cr for MMRDA in FY 2104-15 budget

Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan today approved a Rs4,240 crore budget for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), mainly for the extension and creation of metro rail, mono rail and flyovers and other facilities in the Mumbai metropolitan region.
The MMRDA has proposed to extend the metro rail project to extend its reach to the business clusters of Mumbai, besides building a Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro corridor. It has earmarked Rs634 crore for the metro rail projects, which include Rs 500 crore for the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro corridor.
The authority will also carry out fresh feasibility study for a new metro corridor in place of the Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd corridor that ran into environmental problems.
Now the corridor would be fully underground and the state government has sanctioned Rs4 crore for carrying out feasibility studies afresh.
The MMRDA has also proposed to invest around Rs400 crore for the second phase of mono rail project from Wadala to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk in South Mumbai. The work on the second phase is in full swing and is expected to be completed next year.
