Pakistan on Friday inaugurated a new train operating on a public-private partnership, the Shalimar Express – the second such train in less than a month.
Pakistan Railways plans to operate five trains on public-private partnership basis this year. The Pak Business Express, is grossing revenues of Rs50 lakh on a daily basis, for Pakistan Railways, after being launched earlier this month.
Prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was scheduled to inaugurate the Shalimar Express but was not available for the event.
Railways minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour officially launched the train in place of Gilani and took the opportunity to speak about the recent 'accomplishments' of Pakistan Railways.
Appreciating the hard work put into the initiative, Bilour announced that all employees and officers involved in the joint venture would receive additional salary.
Shalimar Express would run between Lahore and Karachi, via Faisalabad, Multan, Rohri, and Hyderabad.
