The union cabinet has approved payment of productivity linked bonus to Railway employees, equivalent to 78 days’ wages, entailing an expenditure of Rs2,024.40 crore to the exchequer.
The union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days wages to over 1.15 million eligible non-gazetted railway employees (excluding RPF/RPSF personnel) for the financial year 2018-19.
A cabinet release said the PLB equivalent to 78 days wages to eligible railway employees would help motivate a large number of railway employees to improve performance of the Railways and enhance the productivity levels further, besides maintaining industrial peace.
Addressing the press after the cabinet meeting, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and union minister Prakash Javdekar informed that railway employees are to receive bonus equivalent to 78 days wages.
Javedkar said Rs 2,024 crore will be spent on this exercise, and 1.1 million employees will benefit from this move.
"For 11 lakh railway employees, this govt has consistently for last 6 years, being giving record bonus, equivalent to the wage of 78 days. This year also, 11,52,000 employees will get 78 days wage as bonus. This is the reward for productivity", said the Javadekar
PLB to all non-gazetted railway employees is an acknowledgement of their contribution to the efficient running of the Railways.
There being large number of railwaymen and their families, this acknowledgement will enhance the sense of inclusiveness and equity among them, the release stated.
This is the sixth consecutive year that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained a bonus of 78 days wages. It has never lowered it.
