Railways' revenue earnings up 8.74 per cent at Rs55,587 crore in April-November 2009

Indian Railways' revenue earnings on an originating basis increased by 8.74 per cent to an estimated Rs55,586.69 crore during April-November 2009, compared with Rs51,117.55 crore during the same period last year.
Total earnings from goods traffic have gone up 8.56 per cent to Rs37,337.46 crore during April-November 2009 from Rs34,394.97 crore during April-November 2008.
The Railways carried 574.38 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during April-November 2009, up 39.78 million tonnes, or 7.44 per cent, from the freight traffic of 534.60 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year.
Total passenger revenue earnings during the first eight months of the financial year 2009-10 increased 8.01 per cent to Rs15,597.44 crore from Rs14,440.92 crore during the same period last year.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April-November 2009 increased by 4.67 per cent to 4,937.73 million from 4,717.56 million during the same period last year. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-November 2009 were 2,538.04 million and 2,399.69 million, compared with 2,510.40 million and 2,207.16 million during the same period last year, showing increases of 1.10 per cent and 8.72 per cent, respectively.
Revenue earnings from other sources increased 15.71 per cent to Rs1,501.62 crore during April-November 2009 from Rs1,297.69 crore during the same period last year.
