Cabinet clears four road projects worth Rs4,105 crore

The union cabinet on Thursday cleared four road projects involving an expenditure of Rs4,105 crore, and also approved the revised estimates for two projects.

The cabinet committee on infrastructure (CCI) chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also approved development of multipurpose berths at the Paradip Port to handle clean cargo, including containers. The new facilities at the Paradip Port will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs387.31 crore on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis, said an official release.

The road projects approved by the CCI include four-laning of the Jorabat-Barapani (Shillong) section of national highway (NH) H-40 spanning Assam and Meghalya, six-laning of the 59.87-km stretch of the Hosur-Krishnagiri section of NH-7 in Tamil Nadu, and widening the Dhankuni-Kharagpur section of NH-6 in West Bengal.

The CCI also sanctioned rehabilitation and upgrading to two-lane with paved shoulders of the Multai-Seoni section of NH-69A and the Narsinghpur-Amrawada Saoner section of NH-26 in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra respectively.

Besides, the CCI also cleared updated project cost of Rs1,486 crore for widening of the road from Nechipu to Hoj in Arunachal Pradesh.

CCI has also cleared the project for widening of the existing road from Potin to Pangin, under the 'Arunachal Pradesh package of roads and highways', at a revised cost of Rs1,985 crore.
