L&T bids successfully for Rs4,800-cr East-West road corridor project

L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Ltd (L&T IDPL) has emerged the successful bidder for two contiguous 484 km, 4 lane road projects costing approximately Rs4,800 crore. Two separate SPVs of L&T IDPL signed concession agreements with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the two projects.
Both the projects, offered on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, have concession period of 20 years, including a construction period of 30 months, L&T said in release today.
The two road sections are part of NH 6 that connects Surat in Gujarat to Kolkota, a prominent Eat-west corridor and has some of the longest stretches passing through Maharashtra. NH6, also called the Great eastern Road, passes through mineral rich states like Orissa and Chatisgarh besides Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The stretches extend from Amravati to Jalgaon (275 km- Project 1) and Jalgaon to Maharashtra, near Surat (209 km- Project 2).
Currently, the road has two lanes. It will be widened to four with bypasses, flyovers, overbridges across all railway level crossings, besides underpasses, bridges and toll plazas.
L&T said the projects will be built by the construction arm of L&T as an engineering, procurement and construction contract.
The project is expected to facilitate seamless, safe and faster transport between cities such as Surat, Dhule and Nagpur while also paving way for development of the Vidharbha region.
