Four-laning of Mumbai-Goa highway to cost Rs7,100 crore

The four-laning of the Mumbai-Goa highway is estimated cost around Rs7,100 crore and the entire work is likely to be completed in 2014-15, minister of state for road transport and highways R P N Singh informed the Rajya Sabha today.

The Mumbai-Goa stretch of NH-17 has a length of 475.2 km in Maharashtra and 122 km in Goa.

He said the four-laning of a 25 km stretch of NH 17 between Zarap and Patra Devi in Maharashtra is in progress and is likely to be completed in December 2010. Work on the balance portion is likely to commence in 2011-12, he added.

He said the centre had allocated Rs865.51 crore in 2008-09 and Rs946.82 crore in 2009-10 for maintenance and repair of national highways.

The three sates which received the highest allocation in 2008-09 are Andhra Pradesh (Rs83.25 crore), Rajasthan (Rs72.35 crore) and Karnataka (Rs71.24 crore). In 2009-10, Assam (Rs78.85 crore), Rajasthan (Rs76.53 crore) and Uttar Pradesh (Rs73.93 crore) topped the list, he said.

No funds have been allocated for the current year 2010-11 for the purpose so far, he added.
