Tata plans Rs27,000-cr electronics manufacturing unit, green energy investment in Assam

Tata Group is expanding its semiconductor investments in Assam with panned construction of large electronics manufacturing unit, involving an investment of Rs27,000 crore, its chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran has said.
Addressing the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025, in Guwahati, on Tuesday (25 February) the Tata Group chairman also revealed plans to enter into memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with 10 semiconductor manufactures to strengthen production and sales.
The Tata Group will be signing MoUs with several semiconductor manufacturers, including ASMPT, DISCO, Besi, Cadence and Tokyo Electron (TEL), he added.
Chandrasekharan praised Assam government’s support to industry by the creation of an ideal environment to grow and establish a well grounded semiconductor ecosystem.
In fact, he said it was because of the state government’s support that the Tata Group could develop its projects faster than expected.
Further, the Tata Group chairman said the new Tata Electronic Facility in Morigaon will have a capacity to manufacture 48 million chips per day, making it one of the largest semiconductor facility in Southeast Asia. It will also create over 30,000 jobs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Tata Group’s proposed semiconductor assembly and test facility in Assam as a game-changer for the North East.
The Tata Group will also collaborate with the state government in the green energy sector, focusing on solar rooftops and renewable energy projects, Chandrasekharan said.
Besides the Tata Group, the Adani and Reliance groups have each pledged investments of up to Rs50,000 crore in Assam and the North East.
