Board of Approval clears 10 SEZs; grants in-principle approval to one

The Board of Approval for special economic zones (SEZs), which met today, granted formal approval to ten new SEZs and in-principle approval to one, besides approving other miscellaneous requests pertaining to SEZs.
The BoA has so far granted formal approval to 577 proposals for setting up of SEZs, out of which 363 have been notified, Addressing the Board of Approval members, the Chairman informed that
he said.
SEZs have brought in investments of over Rs1,66,526 crore and provided direct employment to around 5,50,323 persons, he added.
Total exports from SEZs stood at around Rs2,20,711 crore during the financial year 2009-10. Exports in the first quarter of financial year 2010-11 recorded a growth of 68 per cent at Rs58,685.46 crore, compared to exports of the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
