Chidambaram's missive to PM refutes Ramesh's charge of home ministry's restrictive approach against Chinese investments

Home minister P Chidambaram has shot off a letter to prime minister Manmohan Singh strongly refuting his cabinet colleague's charge of the security establishment's overly restrictive attidude towards Chinese investments.

Chidambaram was reacting to environment minister Jairam Ramesh's statements about the home ministry's ''alarmist'' approach towards Chinese investments and the 'needless'' restrictions it was imposing.

The home ministry while rebutting Ramesh said it was wrong to say that the security establishment was biased against Chinese companies.

Home secretary G K Pillai has clarified that Chinese firms did not face any bias and Chinese companies were already present in India in a big way and were working in a variety of sectors including telecommunications.

Pillai said he did not think there was any discrimination from the government's side adding that the government took decisions on foreign investments on a case-to-case basis.
