Copenhagen: The G77 group of countries and China, shredded a Danish draft proposal for an agreement on climate change on Wednesday, saying it ''threatens the success" of the ongoing Copenhagen summit. They also warned the host nation to desist from making any such further attempts.

In spite of their fury, the group affirmed it would not walk out of Copenhagen but work towards an equitable outcome till the very end.

Sudan's UN ambassador, Lumumba Stanislaus Di-Aping, also the chief negotiator for the G77 and China, said the leaders of the rich world had a ''moral obligation'' to cut greenhouse gases. He also said failure to keep temperature rise below 2C (3.6F) would lead to the disappearance of island states and ''certain death'' for Africa.

The draft text, which was leaked, is a "serious and unfortunate development. It is a major violation that threatens the success of the Copenhagen negotiating process," said Di-Aping.

The G-77 and China also warned the prime minister of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, not to make any such further attempts.

Di-Aping stated that it is "very unfortunate that the man trusted to lead the process will fail."
