Japan reports $955 million trade deficit in September

The Japanese finance ministry said on Wednesday that the country's goods trade deficit in September stayed at ¥114.5 billion (about $955 million).

The ministry said in a preliminary report that, on a customs-cleared basis, the world's third-largest economy's exports rose 0.6 per cent from a year earlier, while imports declined 11.1 per cent, as per provisional estimates.

Total value of exports (not seasonally adjusted ) stood at ¥6,417.36 billion yen, marginally (0.6 per cent) higher than the 6,382.09 billion yen reported in September last year.

Imports during the month stood at 6531.83 billion yen against imports worth 7344.07 billion yen, an 11.1 per cent year-on-year fall.

Trade balance for September 2015 stood at a negative $114.48 billion.

Exports during April-September 2015 stood at ¥37,759.01 billion, which showed an increase of 5.2 per cent year-on-year, provisional figures released today showed.

Japan's imports during the six-month period stood at ¥39,067.60 billion, which showed a negative trade balance of ¥1,308.60 billion.
