The Delhi government has warned of action against anyone who uses fake CNG stickers or number plates during the odd-even scheme that will be in force from 1 to 15 January, as CNG-fuelled cars are exempt from the restrictions.

The government has given the task of issuing CNG stickers to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which began issuing them at its gas stations from today. ''IGL will issue CNG stickers from Tuesday at 95 gas stations in Delhi. It will also be available in seven stations each in Ghaziabad and Noida and five in Greater Noida. We have sent stickers to all CNG stations,'' said Ashim Batra, vice-president marketing, IGL.

State transport minister Gopal Rai said these stickers will be given only to those whose registration certificate lists their vehicle as a CNG car. Once removed, the sticker cannot be pasted on another car, Rai added.

Features have also been included in the sticker's hologram to help enforcement teams identify fake ones. ''There are hidden features which cannot be copied. They will become visible only when the sticker is pasted … IGL has bought 1,000 sticker readers. Anyone found with a fake sticker will not only be penalised but also booked under Section 420 of the IPC,'' Rai said.

Similarly, fake number plates are being monitored. ''Police have raided a few locations. Those who use fake number plates will be put behind bars,'' said Rai.

Briefing the media on the government's preparedness for the odd-even scheme, the minister said a trial run of buses was conducted Sunday.

''DTC bus conductors have been put on duty in the additional private buses that will ply during the 15-day period.

DTC bus passes will also be valid for these buses. Every bus will have a sticker. Nearly 3,000 buses will be deployed from 1 January. The number will be sufficient as two-wheelers have been exempted. Moreover, the Pooch-O app was launched on 22 December. Now, people in Delhi can give a missed call to 9243007040 and a link to the app will be sent,'' said Rai.
