Mumbai: India will host the 2008  Live Earth India, a concert for climate crisis, which will feature world-renowned musicians, performers, environmental advocates and celebrities from India and the world.

The event will be held on 7 December 2008 at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai. It will feature personal and policy solutions to the climate crisis, offer support for India's most important environmental issues and causes, and provide a platform for India to continue its global climate leadership.

Former US vice president Al Gore, who participated at a press announcement live via satellite on 18 September, said India should lead the world by committing to produce all of its new energy in the electricity sector from clean and renewable sources within the next 10 years.

Beneficiaries of Live Earth India include TERI's 'Light A Billion Lives' campaign and 'Climate Project India,' dedicated to promoting awareness and finding solutions to current climate situations while alleviating poverty.

Light a Billion Lives (LaBL) campaign is aimed at brightening lives across the world by providing 200 million solar lanterns to rural households currently without electricity. Live Earth India also will support Climate Project India's educational programmes and renewable energy solutions in India.

Indian environmentalist Dr R K Pachauri, actor and Live Earth India spokesperson Amitabh Bachchan, and Grammy-award winner Jon Bon Jovi will participate at the event, said Live Earth founder Kevin Wall.

Live Earth India will partner STAR TV to broadcast the event to millions of viewers worldwide through three channels - Star Plus in India, UK & Middle East feeds (global footprint); Star World in Asia; and Channel V in India.

MSN, the official exclusive global broadband partner will provide online feeds of the event.

Live Earth is being co-produced and organized locally in Mumbai by event management firm Wizcraft Entertainment

Wall also said that, Shekhar Kapur, Indian film director will be the creative director for Live Earth India.

Live Earth is a for-profit organisation, founded by producer Kevin Wall, in partnership with Al Gore. Live Earth uses the power of entertainment through integrated events, media, and the live experience to focus on global environmental issues of our time.
