Japan to give Rs2,557 crore in ODA loan to 3 projects in India

Japan has committed around Rs2,557 crore (Yen 46.401 billion) in overseas development assistance (ODA) loan to fund three projects in India.
India and Japan today exchanged notes on the first batch of FY'10 overseas development assistance (ODA) loan package being provided by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to fund the 3 three projects.
Prabodh Saxena, joint secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs and Hideaki Domichi, ambassador of Japan to India, exchanged the notes on the loan package.
The projects include a `Crop Diversification Promotion Project' in Himachal Pradesh, a `Biodiversity Conservation and Greening Project' in Tamil Nadu and the third phase of the `Yamuna Action Plan Project'.
The Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project is estimated to cost 6.035 billion yen and the government of Japan has committed a total of 5.001 billion yen.
The project will promote sustainable crop diversification in Himachal Pradesh by development and rehabilitation of minor irrigation facilities and access farm roads, as well as by improvement of extension services, including promotion of vegetable cultivation, thereby contributing to improvement of livelihood of farmers in Himachal Pradesh.
