NTPC Green Energy to set up green hydrogen hub near Vizag

NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) on Tuesday signed a land lease agreement with Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for setting up an intergrated facility for the production of green hydrogen.
The hydrogen hub, to be set up on a 1,200 acre land parcel near Pudimadaka village in Visakhapatnam, will the largest such facility in India.
NGEL proposes to create a state-of-the-art ecosystem for production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, with facilities for the manufacture of electrolysers and fuel cells.
Besides, it will house related ancillary industries, start-ups, incubation and testing facilities.
The government is implementing a National Green Hydrogen Mission, with an outlay of Rs19,744 crore, aiming to make India a global hub for production, usage and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewable energy arm of state-owned power utility, NTPC Ltd, has been formed with the objective of adding renewable power capacity to its total installed capacity.
NGEL is engaged in the setting up of renewable energy parks and projects in the areas of production and storage of green hydrogen, green ammonia etc, supporting the government’s renewable energy targets.
NTPC Group has an installed RE capacity of 3.4 GW while another 22-odd GW capacity is under implementation against a target of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2032.
The ministry of new and renewable energy has so far awarded tenders for 4.12 lakh tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production and 1,500 MW per annum of electrolyser manufacturing.
