San Francisco told to stop using water from reservoir

California water regulators yesterday told San Francisco to stop drawing some of the river water it has stored in the Hetch Hetchy reservoir, AP reported.
According to officials, the cutback orders did not apply to water already stored in the reservoir, which had enough water to last through two more dry years.
The cutback was ordered by the State Water Resources Control Board in its latest round of notices informing agencies, corporations and individuals holding water rights that waterways were too dry to meet their demand in the drought.
San Francisco was dependent on snow from Sierra Nevada that melted into the Tuolomne River to supply its drinking water. However, the snow pack had largely vanished in the fourth year of the drought.
