The probe into the 2G scam has led the CBI to question the country's top law officer, attorney general G E Vahanvati, and RBI governor D Subbarao, with their statements being recorded by the agency in connection with the multi-crore spectrum allocation, The Indian Express reported.
According to report, citing unnamed sources, during the examination, Vahanvati was asked about his legal opinion given to the telecom ministry when the spectrum process began.
Vahanvati has however told reproters that he had been approached by the investigating agency only for certain clarifications and he was not questioned.
He said the DoT had earlier sent him a press release seeking his opinion and he had sent the release back to the DoT after making some notings on it.
He added the notings on the release were tinkered with about which the CBI had wanted to know from him.
The attorney general's statement to the CBI was taken on the legal opinion relating to a press release issued by DoT on the 2G spectrum allocation on on a first come-first-served basis.
The attorney general is understood to have told the CBI that two paragraphs of the press release had been deleted to suit the convenience of some people following which the CBI carried out a forensic examination of the handwriting in the original press release.
According to sources, the experts had claimed to have found that the document was forged and certain words had been separately included.
