2G scam: CBI tracking bribes paid to ‘southern political party’
12 Feb 2011
Probing the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation has come across evidence of bribes paid by a company which bagged a 2G licence to a southern political party.
Sources in the agency said the trail was established through perusal of documents and questioning of officials.
This is the second instance of the spectrum scam-related cash trail leading to Chennai.
Earlier, the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had established the flow of Rs206 crore from DB Realty to Kalaignar TV.
The agencies had found that money passed from DB Realty (promoters of Swan Telecom) to Kusegaon Realty and then to Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd before reaching Kalaignar TV, a channel majority-owned by family members of Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.
The CBI is probing the case under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court. The scope of the investigations has now been enlarged to include all the companies which received 122 licences issued in 2008.
