08 Jun 2011
The Delhi high court today issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking its response to the bail plea of Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, an accused in the 2G spectrum scam, and two others - Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd promoters Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal.
A single-judge bench of justice Ajit Bharihoke sought a response from the probe agency and listed the bail applications for hearing for 10 June.
Earlier in the day, Justice Bharihoke had dismissed the bail pleas of DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar in the case.
Swan Telecom promoter Balwa, Agarwal and Asif are in Tihar jail and their bail applications have been recently dismissed by the special CBI court looking into the 2G cases.
While Balwa is accused of conspiring with former Telecom Minister A Raja and other telecom officials in getting the 2G licence, Agarwal and Asif, named by CBI in the second chargesheet, are accused of facilitating a Rs200-crore bribe to Kalaignar TV in exchange for a licence to Swan Telecom Pvt Ltd.
Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar are accused of accepting the illegal gratification.
