2G scam: HC seeks documents on 'bribe' to Kalaignar TV
11 Jun 2011
The Delhi High Court today asked the special CBI court to furnish original documents to ascertain whether or not the transfer of Rs200 crore transfer to DMK-run Kalaignar TV was a bribe for favours done in the 2G spectrum allocation or a mere loan deal as the two corporate honchos claim.
"The trial court is directed to hand over these documents to the investigating officer who shall bring them here on the next date of hearing on June 20," Justice Ajit Bharihoke said.
Justice Bharihoke had, earlier, dismissed the bail pleas of alleged beneficiaries of Rs200 crore bribe - DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kaliagnar TV MD Sharad Kumar.
Counsel for Rajeev Agarwal and Asif Balwa, the directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetable Private Ltd, argued that the CBI has wrongly termed the money transfers as bribe while the transfer was in fact a loan advanced to Cineyug Films which, in turn, paid the money to Kalaignar TV.
Justice Bharihoke sought original documents of the alleged agreements executed between Kalaignar TV, Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd and Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetable Pvt Ltd.
D B Group, promoted by Shahid Balwa, was allegedly awarded UAS licences "unauthorisedly" with active connivance of former telecom minister A Raja.
