JK Lakshmi to invest Rs1,600 crore on cement, power expansion

J K Lakshmi Cement plans to invest Rs1,600 crore over the next three years on expansion, which includes setting up of a 2.7 million tonnes greenfield manufacturing facility in Chattisgarh.
According to J K Lakshmi Cement managing director Vinita Singhania, the company is expanding its cement capacity to 8 million tonnes per annum by 2012.
She said the 2.7 million tonnes per annum plant would involve an outlay of Rs1,100 -1,200 crore.
Curently, J K Lakshmi operates a cement plant in Sirohi (Rajasthan) and a 4.7 million tonnes grinding unit near Ahmedabad. The company markets it cement in the northern and western regions in the country.
Elaborating the company's expansion plans, Shailendara Chouksey, whole-time director, said the company was looking for 30 acres of land in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for setting up a 5.5 lakh tonnes cement grinding unit.
He said the investment would be to the tune of Rs80 crore. He added that the unit is expected to go on stream by March 2011 boosting the company's annual capacity to 5.2 million tonnes.
The company is also undertaking a Rs200 crore expansion of the captive power generation capacity.
