Emami group to diversify into cement with 3 million tonne plant in Chhatisgarh

Emami group which is known for manufacture personal, beauty and health care products has announced a diversification initiative into cement manufacture. The company has acquired 400 acres of land in Chhatisgarh for the project.
In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Mohan Goenka, director of Emami group said the company plans to set up a 3 million tonne cement plant in Chhatisgarh for which it would arrange a capital outlay of Rs1,750 crore. The cement plant would also have a 50 MW power plant.
The group already has limestone mines and now it has acquired the land roughly about 400 acres, he said.
Goenka added that the production would hopefully start from 2012 from the Chattisgarh plant.
The company will also set up two grinding units, in Orissa and West Bengal. The Orissa unit will have an annual capacity of 0.6 million tonnes while the West Bengal unit will have annual capacityof 1.5 million tonnes year. The two units are expected to become operational simultaneously.
The construction of the Chhatisgarh plant will begin by the middle of next year.
