BEML to set aerospace facility near Devanahalli airport

Mini Ratna public sector company Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government for establishing yet another manufacturing complex in Bangalore.
As per the MoU, the Karnataka government would provide 25 acres of land to BEML in the notified special economic zone near Bangalore airport, at Devanahalli, in Bangalore rural district. BEML, on its part, has agreed to set up a unit to manufacture aircraft components/ sub assemblies and MRO activities related to aerospace applications - BEML has established a new aerospace division as a part of its product diversification.
The proposed manufacturing complex is expected to generate employment for about 250 personnel initially, besides providing business opportunities to local vendors through procurement of components and raw material.
BEML expects substantial business in the aerospace sector related to defence offset policy of the government. The company expects this business to exceed $15 billion in the next 10 years.
BEML, as part of its efforts at technology upgradation, has recently rolled out India's first standard gauge cantenary maintenance vehicle that can be deployed in Metro transport systems for overhaul and maintenance of overhead electrical line of metro cars.
BEML will also supply the product to Reliance Infrastructure for its Mumbai Metro Project.
