DTH targets 10 million subscriber base by March 2011

DTH major Dish TV aims to add 3 million subscribers this fiscal to take its subscriber base to 10 million by March 2011. The company said today that its subscriber base had crossed the 8 million mark
Dish TV chief executive officer R C Venkateish said the 8 million mark had helped it reassess its targets and the company now looked forward to exit the current fiscal with a 3 million strong subscriber addition.
He said this would take the total subscriber base to 10 million by end-fiscal.
The company had closed the last fiscal with 6.9 million subscribers after adding 1.8 million users during the year.
For the quarter ended 30 June, 2010, the Essel Group company had added 0.64 million new subscribers to take the subscriber base to 7.5 million.
Dish TV is one of the seven players in the DTH market in India the others being Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Airtel Digital, Reliance Big TV, DD Direct and Videocon d2h.
Analysts say the DTH platform is set to grow rapidly with players expected to cater to around 10 million new customers every year.
Dish TV, has ever since it launched operations in 2004- 2005 maintained it leadership position in the fiercely competitive Indian DTH industry.
